Sustainable & Startup Ideas Competition - HCM District 2 - 2024
In tenth grade, I took part in the Vietnam Changemakers Hackathon 2024 with my team. It's a competition for student teams who like solving problems with a business idea, as long as the idea is built around real community impact and an actual social issue.
The prompt my team got was about sustainability: come up with a solution that helps the environment, then attach it to a business model that can actually stand on its own. That sounds simple, but the hard part is right there. A good idea for the environment that has no way of paying for itself doesn't get very far, and a model that makes money but doesn't really help the environment kind of misses the point. Landing somewhere in between those two was harder than I expected when we started.
I won't pretend I walked away with a perfect idea. But I do remember it being the first time I had to think about a problem where both sides, the environment and the business side, had to be solved together, instead of picking one and dropping the other.
